A New Web Site

Since I have now retired, I have chosen to use this web site to document my Family History. If you should want to join me in the quest to find the story of my ancestors please contact me with details, of how you fit into my Family Tree, and I will give you access to do this. Anyone else can freely view most material on people who are no longer living and contribute to the more general stories. To open my Family Tree outside this frame in a new window select here

Thomas Major 1771 - 1843, His Will

I have transcribed this will. For ease of referring to original, line breaks are as on the original and page breaks from the original are marked by blank lines. Round brackets are as in the original but square brackets are round items I could not read.

Earliest mentions of Greens in Kingsthorpe

In 1883 the vicar of Kingsthorpe created a list of old documents, and excerpts from some, in a book called:
Kingsthorpiana or Researches in a Church Chest
I have extracted all mentions of the name Green from this book. I have also included early Greens from the Kingsthorpe parish register.

If anyone has any more information on early Greens in Kingsthorpe I would be very grateful if they could contact me.

Hemswell Antique Centres Unique Antiques Course was a Terrific Success

Last week Hemswell Antiques Centre offered its customers a unique opportunity - to learn about antique furniture from a practicing dealer. Given the amount of media coverage and the public interest in antiques you would think there would be antiques courses everywhere. Not so - Alex who took a place on the first course - came all the way from London because she could not find what she wanted anywhere else. There were a few fine art courses offered by the auction houses but they were far too vague and didn't offer me the hands on experience with furniture that I was looking for.

Investing in Antiquarian Books

With the fluctuation in the stock market within recent months savvy investors are seeking other alternatives to conventional investments.  With Antiquarian books, there is something to suit any level of investment and unlike other investments something to treasure while the investment grows. When venturing into the world of Antiquarian books the first port of call must be Biblion at Grays Antique Market.  For as little as ?50.00 one can pick up a fine copy of Banks, Iain M. Feersum Endjinn. London: Orbit, 1994. Inscribed by the author on the title-page and prices then can reach the thousands for something as scarce as Brisson Ornithologia First Edition 1760, for ?20.000.00 (it is considered the most important ornithological work of the eighteenth century) so even the most discerning collector will find something of interest.
