Letter Ilma to Daughter Billo

Woodlands St Mary

Newbury

14 May

My dearest Billo

I return Mrs B’s letter – thanks. How can you manage with 4 then there will be Mr – or perhaps you do not intend for them to stay. No of course I don’t mind being alone. You must certainly take the girl – she is quite a necessity. Yes the weather is not very encouraging – but hope you had the lovely rain we did last evening – for several hours. Dad says it has saved the corn Barley especially – but not enough to do the grass any good. The glass is still very low but that signifies nothing these days. Yes – Peter must have another vest – what about if he is sick & one vest out on the line!!
I am wondering if you want some more spoons & forks or anything when I come.
Here is Sat. & this not finished – we thought perhaps we should hear from G saying they will come today but no letter so they mean coming tomorrow. Dad has just gone & will ask Dulcie & Bunt up in time for tea & stay the night now the G’s are not coming. I have a lambs tail pie to make & Bubble is just off to Eastbury & will post this. Each time I have wriiten I have intended to tell you how very well Kenneth was looking. I think he is fatter too. Must get on – I think we are going to have thunder – very close & dull – more rain I hope. Kisses for Pop & Peter & our love to you all. Mother
