Letter Ilma to Daughter Phyllis

23 Froxfield College

Sep 2nd 49

My dearest Phyll

A nice birthday kiss & all good wishes for the 15th. I shall think of you my dear & hope you will spend a happy day. I am going down to Kenneth’s on Tuesday 6th for a fortnight. Hope to be back in time to meet Renie & Stanley. I am longing to hear all about you & the family. A card from Greeta yesterday – the 3 youngest children have whooping cough – a beastly complaint & I hope they will get rid of it before the winter. I expect you know they have taken a bungalow on the east coast – Sutton on Sea – Billo & family are there too – so the sea air should do them all good. We have had a wonderful Summer – very little rain & plenty of sunshine – but I cannot say I like the hot weather. I think I have written to you since I had a day in the Woodlands & Ida Huzzey cycled over to see me one Sunday. Mary came over for a week-end – she – Diana & Dulcie go to Paignton tomorrow.
I do not seem to have much news for you will write again after my return from Ken’s. Am just off to Hungerford so shall post this & I hope it reaches you round about the 15th. How are the children & Tony? & is Diana at home? School holidays are different with you eh? I have to get up very early on Tues: catch the 8oc train from Hungerford to Andover – then go on by coach to Oakhampton – about 6 miles from Ashwater – then Ken will meet me. I do plenty of travelling & in spite of my deafness can manage quite well – but at first I was very nervous on my own & missed Dad dreadfully – now – I have more confidence in myself. Well bye bye my dear – lots of love & Many Happy Returns of the Day
Your loving Mother
PS I wonder if you have received the letters I sent just after my last Air Mail one.
