My darling Phyll

Very Many Happy Returns of the 15th & every good wish from Joan & me. You see I am here with all the family at home & Jack very busy with the harvest. Joan is just off to the Women’s Institute then on her return there is tea to send out in the field for 16. I have been here a week & a few days before Arthur, Billo the 3 children & Michael Golding came to 23 – quite a crowd a crowd for my wee house. After lunch Arthur took us for a ride all round E Garston, Eastbury, Lambourn & up the hill to the Woodlands where we had tea with the Manchesters. I thoroughly enjoyed it – so nice to see the old haunts but rather sad – so many old memories. The Sunday following I went to Hungerford to tea with Dulcie – Greeta & family were there – Cecil & Rick went fishing & in the eve Cecil took me back to the College. Now Dulcie, Mary & Diane are in S Wales for a fortnight. I forget if I have told you that Joan has sent a parcel for you by Renie which I do not think you will receive much before Xmas. I think R & Stanley intend going to Ismee’s about that time. I do hope Aunt O will arrange to stay with you. I do not know how long she will be in Argentina. I heard from her last week she hoped to see you and Rob in BA some time this month.
I am glad you like the things from home & I know you will treasure them. A letter from Rob. I wish he could have some of the rain from here – it has been a very wet Summer & a lot of corn spoilt. These girls go back to school on the 19th (Greet’s birthday) they have grown very much since I was here last year – have got quite useful in the house & help with the poultry. It seems rather strange here without a baby in the pram. Jeff – the youngest is 21/2 & I do not think there is another on the way!! I always think of Pigeon House days when I am here – this family is like mine was then. Now I must get this off – hope it reaches you about the 15th. I shall think of you my dear & wish I could be with you. Lots & lots of best love & a big birthday kiss & hug from Mother
