Ann Hazell of Wantage - her Will - 3 January 1797

I haven't yet worked out where Ann fits in my family tree. I haven't even worked out who her husband was. In the Name of God Amen
I Ann Hazell of Wantage in the County of Berks Widow
do make this my last Will and Testament in manner
and form following (that is to say) I give and devise
unto my Son David Hazell All that Barn and Barnside
situate and being in the parish of Wantage aforesaid
near to a certain Lane called the Camel Lane and
also all that piece or parcel of Arable Land lying
and being in Wantage Field in the parish of Wantage
aforesaid commonly called or known by the name of
Mountain Piece and containing by estimation ten acres
(be the same more or less) All which premises I hold
by Lease with other premises under the Dean and
Canons of Windsor and are now in the occupation of
my Brother in Law David Hazell to hold the said Barn
Barnside Arable Land and premises unto my said son
David Hazell his Executors Administrators and
Assigns for all such [] Estate and Interest as I have
therein subject nevertheless and I do hereby direct
that my said Son David Hazell do and shall pay
annually the Sum of nine shillings as and for his
share or portion of the quit rent payable to the said
dean and canons of Windsor for and in respect of the
said premises Also I give unto my said Son David
Hazell the [] standing and being in the
said Barnside adjoining to the said Barn I give and
devise unto my Son William Hazell All that Close of
Meadow or Pasture Ground situate and being in the
Parish of Wantage aforesaid now in my own occupation
and also all those three Messuages or Tenements with

Appurtenances thereunto respectively belonging situate and being in
Tanners Street in Wantage aforesaid now in the several
occupations of Thomas Nevill William Willadvice and
John Watts and also all that Barn with the Appurtenances
situate and being near to or adjoining the said messuages
or Tenements all which said last mentioned premises
I also hold by Lease under the dean and Canons of
Windsor to hold the said Close Messuages or Tenements
Barn and premises unto my said Son William Hazell
his Executors administrators and assigns for all such
[] Estate and Interest as I have therein Subject
nevertheless and I do hereby direct that my said Son
William Hazell do and shall pay annually the sum
of eleven shillings as and for his share or portion of
the quit rent payable to the said Dean and Canons of
Windsor for and in respect of the said premises I Give
and bequeath unto my daughter Ann Hazell the
Sum of Three hundred pounds to be paid to her by my
Executors hereinafter named at her age of twenty one
years with Interest for the same from the time of my
decease until the time of payment at and after the
rate of five pounds per centum per Annum for and
towards her support and maintenance And I do
hereby declare my Will to be that the said Legacy or
Sum of Three hundred pounds and Interest so given
to my said daughter Ann Hazell shall include and be
taken and accepted by her, her Executors or Administrators
in lieu and full discharge to my Executors of all
ammounts which shall or may be due to her from my
late husbands personal Estate Also I give and
bequeath unto my said Daughter Ann Hazell All
my wearing apparel both Linen and Woollen I give
and bequeath unto my Son Edward Hazell all such
of my Goods as shall or may be deemed or considered
as fixtures to my Dwelling House and Premises and
Stands in the Cellar and the Bedstead Bed Bedding
and other Furniture now in and about the Room
wherein he usually Sleeps Also I give and bequeath
unto my said Sons David Hazell and William Hazell
and Daughter Ann Hazell All the rest and residue of
my Household Goods Furniture Plate Linen and
China (not hereinbefore by me Given and Bequeathed)
equally to be divided between them share and share
alike And as to all monies and Secutrities for money
and all other my personal Estate whatsoever and
wheresoever not hereinbefore by me disposed of which
I shall die possessed of interested in or intitled unto (after
and subject to the payment of my just debts ahe above
mentioned Legacy and Funeral and Testamentary
expenses) I give and bequeath the same and every
part thereof unto my said Sons David Hazell and

William Hazell equally to be divided between them share
and share alike And Lastly I hereby constitute and
appoint my said Sons Edward Hazell and David
Hazell joint Executors of this my last Will and Testament
hereby revoking all former Wills and Codicils to Wills
by me made In Witness whereof I the said Ann
Hazell the Testatrix have to each sheet of this my last
Will and Testament (contained in two sheets of paper)
set my hand and seal this third day of January in
the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and
ninety seven - Ann Hazell - Signed Sealed
Published and declared by the said Ann Hazell the
Testatrix as and for her last Will and Testament in
the presence of us who in her presence and in the
presence of each other have subscribed our names
as witnesses thereto - Wm Beckett - John West -

This Will was proved at London the
fourteenth way of February in the year of our Lord
one thousand seven hundred and ninety seven before
The Worshipful John Sewell Doctor of Laws Surrogate
of the Right Honorable Sir William Wynne Knight
also Doctor of Laws Master Keeper of Commissary
of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted
by the oaths of Edward Hazell and David Hazell the
Sons of the deceased and Executors named in the Will
to whom administration was granted of all and
singular the Goods Chattels and Credits of the deceased
having been first Sworn duly to adm.
