Maurice Hiller Goodman of London - his Will - 1784

Maurice Hiller my 6x Great Uncle. He was the brother of Thomas Major's Mother in Law. His relationship to my Mother can be seen here. I'm afraid none of his enormous fortune found it's way to me.

 This is the last Will and Testament

of me Maurice Hiller Goodman of Gracechurch
Street London Linen Draper I give and bequeath
unto Sophia my dear Wife Three thousand five hundred
Pounds absolutely to her own use to be paid to her
so soon as conveniently may be after my decease and
I direct that she shall be paid Interest for the same
until actual Payment I give to my Executors herein
after named the sum of three thousand pounds
upon the Trusts and for the Purposes following that
is to say upon Trust to lay out and invest the same
in some or one of the Public Funds or on Real
Securities and to Pay and apply the dividends or
Interest thereof from time to time as the same
shall grow due and payable or so much as shall be
necessary for or towards the Maintenance Education
and bringing up of the Child of which my said Wife
is at present ensient until he or she shall attain the
age of twenty one years if a Son or shall attain that
age or be married if a daughter  and upon the said
Childs attaining the Age of twenty one years if a Son
or attain that age or being married if a Daughter I 
give to him or her the said Principal Sum of Three
thousand poundsor the Funds or Securities in or upon
which the same shall stand Invested and I direct that
the same shall be paid assigned or transferred to
him or her accordingly I give to my Brother James
Goodman the Sum of Eleven hundred Pounds I give to
my two Sisters Sarah and Charlotte the Sum of Eight
hundred Pounds a piece I give to my Sister Elizabeth
the Sum of Five hundred Pounds and to my Sister
Catherine the like Sum of Five hundred Pounds I 
give to my Executors herein after named the Sum of
 
Two hundred Pounds In Tust to be by them laid out
and invested in Government or on Real Securities and
to pay the yearly dividends on Interest thereof unto
my Sister Mary? for and during the term of her natural
Life and from and after her death I give the same to
Samuel Tarrant to be paid to him at his age of twenty
one years and the Interest thereof in the mean time
to be paid or applied for or towards his Maintenance
or Education I give to the said Samuel Tarrant the
Sum of three hundred Pounds to be paid him at his
age of twenty five years and the Interest thereof or
so much thereof as shall be necessary to be paid or
applied for or towards his Maintenance and Education
I give to my Partner William Francis the Sum of
Five hundred Pounds I give to my Executors herein
after named the Sum of two hundred Pounds to be
placed or laid out in the Public Funds or on real
Securities In Trust to Pay the Dividends or Interest
thereof as the same shall become due and Payable
unto my Honoured Mother for and during the term
of her natural Life and from and immediately after
her decease In Trust to Pay or transfer the said
Principal Sum of two hundred Pounds unto my two
Brothers John and James equally to be divided between
them share and share alike Item I give to my Partner
Mr John Barlow the Sum of Fifty Pounds I give one
Suit of Mourning to all the Clerks and servants
employed in the Trade carried on by me and my
Partners and also all my Domestic Servants a Suit of
Mourning each I hereby give and bequeath unto my
said dear Wife all my Household Goods Plate Linen
and Furniture absolutely to her own use and with
respect to the Legacy of Three thousand Pounds herein
before given to my Executors In Trust for the Child with
which my Wife is now ensient It is my Will and Mind
and I do hereby direct that in case the said Child shall
not be born alive or being born alive shall afterwards
die under the Age of twenty one years being a Son
or under that Age and unmarried being a Daughter
then and in such case and upon either of the said
events happening I do hereby giveand bequeath the
said Legacy of three thousand Pounds so given In Trust
for such Child as aforesaid unto and amongst all and
every my Brothers and Sisters equally to be divided
between them share and share alike and to the child
and Children of such of them asshall be then dead
such Child or Children standing in the Place of his
her or their Father or Mother and to be entitled to
 
his her or their share or shares only And and as to all the
rest and residue of my Estate and Effects whatsoever and
wheresoever and of what nature or kind soever I give
and bequeath the same and every part thereof unto
my Brother John Goodman absolutely to his own use
and in regard the greatest Part of my Fortune is at
Present employed in the Trade in which I am at
present engaged with my said Partners William Francis
and John Barlow and is by the terms of the agreement
between me and my said Partners to be paid out by
equal Instalments in one two three and four years
after my decease I do hereby request that my Executors
will Pay and discharge the said Legacies hereby given
in due Proportion as near as may be except as to the
Legacy given to my said Wife which is to be paid in
Preference And I do hereby constitute and appoint
my said Brother John Goodman and my said Partner
William Francis Executors of this my Will and revoking
all former and other Wills by me at any time heretofore
made I declare this present Writing to contain my last
Will and Testament I do hereby direct that my said
Executors shall not be accountable for any more of
my Estate than shall actually come to their
respective Hands nor for any loss which shall or may
happen thereto so as that the same happen without
their respective default nor the one for the other of
them or for the Executors or Administrators Arts or
goods of the other of them but each one for his own
Artd deeds Receipts Payments Neglects and Defaults
only And I do direct that it shall be lawful for my
said Executors respectively to deduct and retain to
themselves respectively out of my Estate or the
produce thereof all such Sum and Sums of Money
Costs Charges and Expenses as they or either of them
shall Pay expend or be Put unto for or by reason or
on account of the Trusts reposed in them by this my Will
or any way relating to the due Execution thereof In
Witness whereof I the said Maurice Hiller Goodman
the Testator have to the two first Sheets of this
my Will set my hand only and to this third and last
Sheet my hand and seal this twenty sixth day of May
one thousand seven hundred and eighty four Maurice
Hiller Goodman Signed Sealed Published and declared
by the said Maurice Hiller Goodman the Testator in
and for his last Will and Testament in the Presence of
us Owin Davies Tho Webb
 
This Will was proved at London the twenty seventh day
of July in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred
and eighty four before the Worshipful Andrew []
[[] Doctor of Laws Surrogate of the Right worshipful
Peter Calvert Doctor of Laws Master Keeper and Commissary
of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted
by the Oaths of John Goodman the Brother of the deceased
and William Francis the Executors named in the said Will
to whom administration of all and singular the Goods
Chattels and Credits of the said deceased was granted
they having been forst sworn duly to administer
