John Eddolls of Langley Burrell - his Will - 1819

 This is the Last Will and Testament

of me John Eddolls of Langley Burrell in the County of Wilts Yeoman which
hereby revoking all former Wills by me at any time heretofore made I make publish
and declare in manner following (that is to say) First I give and devise unto my
Son John Eddolls All that my Messuage or Dwelling house with the several
Closes pieces and parcels of Land and Hereditaments situate lying and being
in the several parishes of Chippenham Langley Burrell and Hardenhuish some
or one of them in the said county of Wilts and now in the occupation of
him my said Son John Eddolls And also all those my two cottages or Tenements
situate standing and being near a place called Sutton Lane in the said
parish of Langley Burrell and now or late in the several Occupations of
Thomas Selman and Robert Hacker And also all and singular other my Real
Estate whatsoever and wheresoever To hold the same with their and every
of their rights members and appurtenances unto and to the use of mysaid Son John Eddolls his heirs and assigns for ever And I do hereby
declare that I have not by this my Will given any pecuniary Legacy to
my said Son John Eddolls in connsequence of my having already given and
delivered to him my Hay Cattle Farming Stock and Implements of Husbandry
and all such parts of my Household Goods and Furniture as are not herein
after by this my Will given to my Wife I give and bequeath unto my
good Friends Anthony [] of Chippenham aforesaid Gentleman and Walter
Crook of Kellaways in the said County of Wilts Gentleman the sum of Four
thousand pounds of lawful Money of Great Britain Upon Trust that they
my said Trustees or theSurvivor of them or the Executors or Administrators of
such Survivor do and shall lay out and invest, or continue the same at,
Interest upon Real Government or some other good and sufficient Security or
Securities and alter and change such Security or Securities when and so often
as they or he shall see fit and do and shall pay the Interest Dividends
and annual produce thereof from time to time as the same shall being
received unto my dear Wife Elizabeth Eddolls or otherwise impower permit,
and suffer her to receive  and take the same for and during the Term of her
natural life And from and immediately after the decease of my said Wife Then
I will and direct, that the said Legacy of Four thousand pounds, shall fall
into my residuary Estate for the benefit of my residuary Legatees herein after
named and be considered and applied as part thereof Also I Give and
bequeath unto my said Wife Elizabeth Eddolls the sum of Two hundred pounds
to be paid to her by my Executors In Trust, herein after named immediately
after my Decease I also Give and bequeath unto my said Wife all my
Plate and also all the Furniture in the best parlour in the best Bedroom
and in her own Bed room (parts of the Messuage herein before devised
to my said Son John ) for her own absolute use benefit and disposal
 
And I do hereby declare that the Bequests hereby made in favour of my said
Wife are so made and intended to be in lieu and satisfaction of the Settlement
made or proposed to be made by me upon my Marriage with her which
happened in my Minority I Give and devise unto my Son Rawleigh Eddolls
All those my two Leasehold Cottages or Tenements with their appurtenances
situate standing and being in the Parish of Hardenhuish aforesaid and now
in the several Occupations of Joseph Batten and Hannah Cousins To hold
the same unto my said Son Rawleigh Eddolls his executors administrators
and assigns for and during all my Estate Term and Interest therein And
whereas upon the Marriage of my Daughter Mary with her late Husbandry
William Freeth I covenanted to pay to Joseph Edwards and my said Son
John Eddolls the sum of Six hundred Pounds Upon Trust for the said
William Freeth and my said Daughter Mary and their Issue in manner
therein mentioned Now I do hereby Give and bequeath unto my said
Daughter Mary Freeth the sum of Four hundred Pounds for her own
absolute use and benefit in addition to the said sum of Six hundred
pounds and which two several sums of Six hundred Pounds and Four
hundred Pounds will make her Fortune of equal Amount with that of
her Sister Catherine the Wife of Edward Seager to whom I have given
One thousand pounds on her Marriage I Give and bequeath unto the said
Anthony Guy and Walter Crook the sum of Two hundred pounds Upon
Trust that they my said [                                      ]
administrators do and shall lay out and invest or continue the same at
Interest upon Real Government or some other good and sufficient Security
or Securities and alter and change such Security or Securities when and
so often as they or he shall see fit and do and shall pay the Interest
Dividends and annual produce thereof into the proper hands of my daughter
Ann the Wife of William Brewer by Weekly payments on Monday in every
Week for and during the Term of her natural life for her sole and seperate
use and benefit exclusively of her present or any future Husband and
wherewith he shall have nothing to do nor shall the same be subject or
liable to his debts contract or Engagements And I direct that the Receipt
of her my said Daughter alone under her hand shall from time to time be
a sufficient Discharge for the same notwithstanding her present or any future
Coverture And from and immediately after the decease of my said Daughter
Ann Brewer Then I will and direct that the said sum of Two hundred
pounds shall fall into my residuary Estate for the benefit of my
Residuary Legatees herein after named and be considered and applied as
part thereof I Give to my said Trustees Anthony Guy and Walter Crook
the sum of Twenty pounds apiece as some Acknowledgement for the trouble
they will have in executing the Trusts of this my Will And as to all
the rest residue and remainder of my Goods chattels Rights Credits Monies
 
and Securities for Money Personal and Testamentary Estate and Effects whatsoever
and wheresoever after payment of my just Debts Legacies Funeral Expenses
and the Charges of the proof and Execution of this my Will and subject thereto
I Give and bequeath the same and every part thereof unto my said Son
Rawleigh Eddolls and my said Daughters Catherine Seager and Mary
Freeth equally to be divided between them share and share alike and to
their respective Executors Administrators and Assigns And I do make
nominate constitute and appoint the said Anthony Guy and Walter Crook
Executors In Trust of this my last Will and Testament Provided and
and I do hereby declare it to be my Will that my said Trustees the said
Anthony Guy and Walter Crook their Executors administrators or assigns
or any or either of them shall not be charged or chargeable with or
accountable for any more of the aforesaid Trust Monies than shall
come to their or his hands or hand respectively and that the one of them
shall not be answerable for the other but each of them for his own
separate act receipt neglect or default only and that it shall be lawful
for them and each of them their and each of their Executors Administrators
and assigns to deduct and retain out of the said Trust Monies all such
reasonable and necessary costs charges and Expenses as they or either of
them shall or may pay sustain expend or be put unto in the execution
of the Trusts hereby in them reposed In witness whereof I the said

contained in three Sheets of Paper to the first two sheets thereof set my
Hand and to this third and last Sheet set my Hand and Seal this 
ninth day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand eight
hundred and nineteen
