Text:
Death and Funeral of the Late Postmaster On Thursday the 21st inst, the late postmaster (Mr Charles Osmond), after a lengthened illness, died at his residence in the High street. Mr Osmond had been postmaster at Hungerford for over 40 years, and on account of illness retired 15 months ago. The duties of the office were, during the lengthened period mentioned, fulfilled by him with great efficiency and urbanity, and he was held in much respect by all. The funeral took place at the parish church on Tuesday. In addition to the immediate friends of the deceased, the following also attended - Mr Barclay (postmaster, Hungerford), Mr Heat (postmaster, Kintbury), Mr Abery (postmaster, Great Bedwyn), and Mr G Uren. The coffin was borne to the grave by the rural postmen of the district. Some beautiful wreaths were sent by relatives and friends. The shops were partially closed during the funeral.
